How to get to Catania from the airport

Fontanarossa Airport is the largest in Sicily. The terminal handles over 10 million passengers annually.

How to get to the city center

Catania Airport is located 7 kilometers south of the city center. You can reach it by taxi or transfer — the travel time is 10–15 minutes. Public transportation is also available.

Public transport

The only public transport option from the airport to the city is the bus. There is no railway connection to the airport.

Bus

The bus takes you to the train station and the city center. You need Alibus route № 475. Route: Fontanarossa Airport, Asse dei Servizi, Faro Biscari, Tempio, Colombo, Borsellino square, Vittorio Emanuele, Duomo, Etnea, Stesicoro, Sicilia, Martiri Libertà, Catania Railway Station.

  • Where to find it: the stop is located opposite Terminal B.

  • Travel time: 20–25 minutes.

  • Where to buy a ticket: at the kiosk at the stop or from the driver.

  • Operating hours: from 04:40 to 00:30; buses run every 15–20 minutes.

  • Fare: 4.50 EUR. The ticket is valid for 90 minutes.

Transfer

A convenient way to get to the city. You’ll know the price in advance, and the driver will meet you at the airport with a name sign.

Price: from 30 EUR for two passengers.

Taxi

Taxi is an expensive mode of transport in Catania. Be sure to check that the driver turns on the meter.

  • Taxi contacts:

  • Cost: about 25 EUR during the day and 45 EUR at night. This is the minimum fare, not including traffic. Rates: base fare — 3 EUR, per km — 1.50 EUR.

Extra charges for taxi rides:

  • 1 hour of waiting — 20 EUR.

  • For one suitcase or large bag — 1 EUR.

  • Traffic jam — 0.35 EUR/km.

  • From 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM and on holidays — +4 EUR.

  • On Sundays and public holidays — +2 EUR.

Car Rental

For tourists who want to explore the beauty of Sicily on their own, renting a car is the best option.

  • Cost: from 30–45 EUR per day for an economy class car.

  • Where to find: car rental counters are located in the airport or can be booked online (e.g., on rentalcars website).
