Sicily may not be the ultimate destination for water sports enthusiasts. The calm Ionian Sea is more suitable for quiet family vacations than extreme tricks on boards. However, many hotels, especially those located in beach areas, offer services such as wakeboarding or parasailing.
For diving enthusiasts, we recommend heading north of Catania to the beach area of Mazaro near the town of Taormina. This picturesque and relatively deep bay is known as one of the most beautiful in Sicily.
If you want to try kitesurfing, head to the western coast of Sicily. In the lagoon of Lo Stagnone, there is a kitesurfing school called Sicily Kite School. Equipment rental starts from 60 EUR per day, and an hour-long lesson with an instructor costs 60 EUR as well.
Water skiing is quite popular in the resort town of Giardini-Naxos, located between Catania and Messina. Here, you can also enjoy diving, windsurfing, paragliding, and mountain biking.
