Water Temperature in Catania
The warmest water in the Sicilian resort of Catania is typically from July to September, with temperatures around 25-26°C. In October, it is still possible to swim in the waters of Catania's beaches with temperatures around 23°C. However, by November, it starts to get cooler with temperatures reaching around 20°C. During winter, the water temperature in the Ionian Sea fluctuates around 14-15°C. The swimming season traditionally begins in early May when the water temperature in the Ionian Sea rises to around 18°C.
The waters of Catania are characterized by their calm nature. Storms and strong winds are rare occurrences, and waves in the Ionian Sea are infrequent. This makes it a popular destination for families with children and novice sailors.
The tides in Catania are very small, with a difference in water level of only 5-10 centimeters. This is due to the fact that the Ionian Sea, as part of the Mediterranean Basin, is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the narrow Strait of Gibraltar.
