Rimini's climate is characterised by a combination of continental and Mediterranean influences. As a result, the weather here is milder in winter than in other northern Italian regions. In particular, winter temperatures rarely drop below zero and heavy snowfall on the Adriatic coast is rare, but it is often cloudy and rainy. Generally speaking, the rainy season in Rimini lasts from October to December and during the rest of the year it is likely to rain for a maximum of one week per month.
However, Rimini's nature and climate differs from that of the Mediterranean mainly due to the winds. It is the winds that somewhat mitigate the summer heat in Rimini, which in August can reach +30°C. However, August is also the rainiest of the summer months, so tourists rarely suffer from stuffiness.
Rimini's vegetation is not exotic, although it is very varied. There are olive groves and vineyards, pine forests and chestnut groves, tall trees and flowers of all kinds.
The natural landscapes around the city are picturesque: green hills and cosy valleys, seascapes and lush city parks, karst caves and limestone caves, thermal springs and nature reserves provide excellent conditions for a wonderful holiday in the heart of nature.
Rimini's fauna is made up of sea creatures, with commercial fish and small animals (crabs, jellyfish, oysters, lobsters, mussels, etc.) predominating. While you won't find any colourful exotic fish, there are no dangerous marine animals along the coast.
The protected areas are home to roe deer, porcupines, badgers, squirrels and foxes. Rimini is also home to a variety of birds: storks, spoonbills, pelicans, herons, kingfishers, hoopoes and cuckoos. More animals and unusual plants are to be found in the countryside, such as the Gemmano Nature Reserve and the Marano Nature Park.
