Perhaps due to its small size, or maybe because of a general dislike for conductors and drivers, there is no public transportation in Tropea. Everyone either walks or rents a moped, car, or even a yacht.
Local Transport
The last option is by far the most romantic — the views from the yacht's stern are absolutely breathtaking! At that point, you’ll definitely forget about minibuses or city buses.
However, to explore the surrounding areas, you can use intercity buses or regional trains. Bus stops are located not far from the center, and the schedules are usually adjusted to suit the tourist season. Keep in mind, though, that buses run infrequently, so it's a good idea to check departure times in advance.
If you arrive in Tropea without a car but want to explore the coast, renting a scooter or bicycle is your best bet. It’s not only convenient but also lets you enjoy the Calabrian spirit and fresh sea breeze. During the peak season, demand is high, so booking in advance is recommended.
There are taxis in the city, but they operate on a limited basis and mostly serve transfers from airports or train stations. Relying on them for daily transportation is not advisable.
