The main attraction of Viareggio is its endless sandy beaches with comfortable access to the sea. All of them have the blue flag of the EU, which confirms and guarantees the cleanliness of the environment, beaches, and seawater. All beaches have well-developed infrastructure. Many of them are available for rent. There are fewer public beaches, and they are always crowded, especially on weekends.
At first glance, private and public beaches do not differ from each other: everywhere is beautiful, clean, and has everything you need for a wonderful beach vacation. However, the level of service on paid beaches is higher. Some beaches have pools with seawater, which is especially relevant when the sea is rough. The cost of visiting a well-equipped beach and a standard beach set with a couple of sun loungers and an umbrella is around 15-20 EUR, while entrance to a municipal beach costs about 3 EUR.
It is worth noting that all beaches close after 18:00, and it is not possible to take a walk along the sea, admiring the sunset.
The free beach of Viareggio is located between Torre del Lago and Viareggio, and it is also called the Lecciona beach because it is part of the Leccionia Nature Park. It can be reached on foot or by bicycle.
