Spain's basic customs regulations.

Import and export of currency in Spain is almost unlimited. When entering from the territory of non-EU countries, amounts over 10 thousand EUR are subject to mandatory declaration. According to the Spanish Law "On currency regulation and currency control" the amount not exceeding 2500 EUR is allowed to be exported without declaration. The amount from 2500 to 8400 EUR will have to be declared, you will not be asked for authorization documents. For the amount exceeding 8400 EUR you need documents authorizing its export.

From what is prohibited to bring into Spain, you can make a short list. These are narcotics, narcotics-containing preparations, medical preparations (except for those necessary for treatment at a particular moment, in the presence of medical institution certificates). In addition, these are firearms, ammunition, explosives, pornography, flowers, plants, animals, birds, products of endangered species of plants and animals. Fresh food products without vacuum packaging are also not imported, as well as sausage, canned food, lard, chocolate candies.

Poultry meat from Asian countries cannot be imported. The ban does not apply to baby food and preparations necessary for people with certain chronic diseases. Products must be carefully packed, and their weight must not exceed 2 kilograms. If meat and dairy products are found, they will be confiscated and the passenger will pay a fine. More often than not, this list of products also applies to what is prohibited to take out of Spain.

Those aged 17 or over arriving from countries outside the EU customs area are allowed to import up to 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco duty-free.

Most tourists wonder how much alcohol and other drinks can be brought into Spain.

  • up to 1 liter of spirits (alcohol from 22%)
  • up to 2 liters of fortified wines and liqueurs (alcohol less than 22%)

The Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla, Gibraltar and other European territories are considered outside the EU zone and have separate rules.
