The Emirates are known for their strict morals and harsh laws. That is why there is virtually no crime in the UAE. Here, people are fined or imprisoned for seemingly harmless offenses in our country. Tourists are not an exception and for misdemeanors are responsible as well as locals. Sharjah is the strictest emirate with regard to the norms of law and morality, as well as the observance of the Koran.
Photographing Arab women is perceived as an insult. Gambling is prohibited in the country, and bathing suits are allowed only on the beaches or at the hotel pool. It is strictly forbidden to sunbathe in the nude or without a swimsuit top. And alcohol is completely prohibited here. The fine for crossing the road in the wrong place, throwing garbage on the street or smoking in public places is 500 AED.
It is also worth observing the usual precautions for African countries:
- Do not drink tap water;
- wash your hands more often, especially on excursions and safaris;
- wear a sun hat when outdoors.
Otherwise, Sharjah is safe and secure. Of course, the usual precautions should be observed, not leaving valuables and large sums of money unattended. The biggest problem is theft from cars, but tourists are not in any serious danger.
