Sharjah is appreciated for its peaceful atmosphere, interesting historical monuments, low accommodation prices and, of course, for its sea vacation. A huge number of clean beaches with fine sand, warm water, well-maintained territory, developed infrastructure - what else do you need for a wonderful beach vacation? The waves of the Persian Gulf are steep but small, and in the absence of wind, the sea is consistently calm.
Local coastal hotels (such as Al Bustan, Grand Hotel, Villa Al Khalidiah) and beaches offer some water-based activities, including their own small water parks.
In 2014, Sharjah also added a city water park called Al Montaza. It includes water rides, a recreation area, and other attractions. The area is not very large, you can swim across it on the "lazy river". For families there are lounge chairs under the tents, which can be used as picnic areas. There are cafes on site.
The list of water activities isn't as long as Dubai's beachfront, but there's plenty to choose from. For example, the Grand Hotel offers water-skiing, banana boat rides, catamaran rides and sailing. The Coral Beach Resort offers catamaran and mask rentals, waterslides, wakesurfing and aqua aerobics.
If all this isn't enough, many hotels offer free transfers to Dubai, where there's more choice. For example, the Hilton offers parasailing, fishing, wakeboarding and more. The hotel organizes water activities not only for guests, but also for members of the beach club, which you can join.
