If you prefer beach vacations to local sightseeing and love the special atmosphere of old towns, choose Split's central areas of Lukak, Dobri, Manus and Varom. There's an utterly charming, living museum setting: mysterious narrow streets, elegant stone houses and an almost palpable breath of history.
If you want to experience the atmosphere of the modern part of the city, then Split's best neighborhood is Spinut. Here, by the way, is the stadium where the local soccer club Hajduk train and play.
There are no dangerous areas in Split, except that Spinut can be hot during serious soccer matches - Croatian fans are very gambling and overly concerned about their team.
