Marian Mountain, occupying roughly a third of the city, serves as a sort of amusement park in Split. It stands out as one of the most beloved spots for locals, featuring historical sites, picnic spots, and lookout points.
The park caters to children with slides, swings, sandboxes, and climbing structures on a sizable playground. As the park is nestled in a hilly area, it's advisable to visit in the morning and bring along a water bottle. However, if you forget, you can quench your thirst from the local springs. The spring water is exceptionally pure and high in calcium, but do note that it can be quite cold.
If you happen to visit Split during the summer, you're in for a treat of open-air entertainment. The area hosts a variety of concerts, theater performances, and music festivals regularly. Notably, Split Summer, dedicated to vocals, particularly opera, gathers music groups and artists from around the world.
The festival takes place within the Old Town, creating a truly unique atmosphere. Alongside vocal performances, the program typically includes ballet showcases, jazz concerts, and art exhibitions. In recent years, the festival has expanded to include film screenings and street theater performances. Split Summer spans a month, running from mid-July to mid-August.
