Croatia is a quiet and peaceful country. In the resort area of Split there are cases of pickpocketing, so it is recommended to keep a close eye on valuable things, money, especially in places of mass gathering of people (at summer festivals, city market). In general, the city is safe, so you can do with the usual precautions in crowded places. The exception may be the areas near the stadium during soccer matches: sometimes fans cause riots that end up with the police being called.
