Mykonos is an island of the Cyclades archipelago in the Aegean Sea. Like most Greek islands, it is small, with a total coastline of about 90 km. According to legend, the island was named in honor of the hero Mykonos, a descendant of the god Apollo. The administrative center is the city of the same name.
When planning a trip to Mykonos, take into account that the climate here is drier. The island is predominantly granite, and this is one of the reasons for problems with drinking water. However, tourists are not affected by these problems. The local population is constantly decreasing, moving to the mainland. But at the same time, the tourist infrastructure continues to develop and grow. Tourism is the main sphere of activity of locals, so there is excellent service and everyone is always friendly.
There is a legend according to which Heracles destroyed giants on Mykonos, and over time their bodies petrified. This is how the ancient Greeks explained the huge number of rocks. The first inhabitants were the Egyptians, followed by the Cretans and then the natives of Athens. The island was conquered by the Venetians and Turks, which affected the architecture. But it was completely liberated in 1830.
