Mykonos has several resort towns and villages, the main one being Chora, the capital of the island. This part of Mykonos is considered one of the most picturesque: cozy white-washed houses with bright blue shutters, small churches, orange orchards and flower carpets will not leave indifferent even a hardened cynic.
From a tourist point of view, the map of Mykonos in Russian can be divided into three parts:
- Little Venice district - the historical center with picturesque streets, cozy houses located at the water's edge, small restaurants and elite stores;
- the south shore - a place of pilgrimage for party people from all over the world, including sexual minorities. This is the heart of the Mykonos map, with 5 star hotels and above. The best beaches are here;
- The north coast is a favorite destination for windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts.
Districts of Mykonos
Mykonos is rightly considered the pearl of the Cyclades archipelago. Although there is no official administrative division into districts, the island can be divided into three thematic parts:
Chora is the capital of Mykonos, the main and largest town. Most of the sights are here, there are not too many tourists, and accommodation prices are an order of magnitude lower than on the coast. If you're not a fan of partying, this is probably the best neighborhood to stay in.
South Coast. This is where the best beaches are located, including Paradise, one of the top 10 most popular beaches in the world, as well as 5-star hotels and above. This part of the island is considered the area to live in if you're in the mood for a truly bohemian vacation. White sand, azure waters, secluded places, wildlife and... partying, partying and partying again! Due to the record density of nightclubs per square meter, this part of the island is called the Greek Ibiza. If you want to party and party hard, this is the place to be.
North Coast. It's a place for a select few who can't live a day without extreme sports. And what is the most popular extreme sport in Mykonos? Windsurfing, of course! The northern coast is a haven for the northern winds, which do not cease for a minute. Tourists from all over the world come here to test their strength against the elements. It's also home to some excellent diving centers.
Another area of Mykonos that deserves special attention is Little Venice, also known as the historic center. It is the most beautiful neighborhood located in the western part of the island. The name is not accidental: the small houses are built practically on the water, so you can dive into the sea from your veranda.
There are no dangerous areas in Mykonos - as in other resort towns, there is a calm, relaxed atmosphere. Except that family travelers should refrain from visiting Elia and Super Paradise beaches, which are revered by sexual minorities.
