Most hotels in Mykonos offer breakfast (BB) or half-board (HB). But even if your hotel is all-inclusive, the only way to get a taste of the island's flavor in the middle of the Aegean is in one of its traditional tavernas. One of the best is the authentic Fokos Taverna, located in the bay of the same name on a wild beach.
This place is a foodie's paradise. Local chefs prepare fish dishes as if the gods themselves told them the secret! But don't limit yourself to tasting only fish: the taverna serves amazing Mykonos ham, a local delicacy that is prepared according to an ancient recipe. The price for this gourmet experience is quite modest — for a dinner with wine you'll have to pay about 80 EUR for two people.
By the way, prices in the tavernas of even such an expensive resort as Mykonos are quite comparable to those of inexpensive European cafes and restaurants. Judge for yourself: a portion of Greek salad costs 5-6 EUR, spaghetti — 4-8 EUR, a bottle of beer — from 3 EUR, the famous Greek fish soup — 5 EUR, Greek coffee — 2 EUR, moussaka — 6-8 EUR, a portion of fresh seafood — from 12 EUR, taramosalata or zadziki — 3 EUR.
Among the most popular venues in Mykonos are:
Avli Tou Thodori — a restaurant of national cuisine where every dish is a masterpiece. Special attention is paid to presentation. An undeniable advantage of the venue is a special menu for young guests;
Kikis Tavern — a tavern-style restaurant with an incredibly warm atmosphere, highlighted by interesting design solutions and massive wooden furniture;
Fokos — a restaurant where you can truly discover Mediterranean cuisine. Tourists from all over the world come here to taste the signature dishes — meat prepared over an open fire.
Among budget-friendly places in Mykonos, tourists particularly appreciate:
Piccolo — a café-restaurant specializing in sandwiches and vegetable salads;
To Maereio — a place where you can order an inexpensive set lunch.
However, these venues are quite popular, so it is better to reserve a table for dinner in advance.
If you've had enough of Greek delicacies, turn your attention to Argentine or Japanese cuisine. The best of the former is served at Uno Con Carne (Argentine fillet is the main draw), the latter at Sakura Sushi lounge bar. And don't forget to order a unique cocktail with sake and martini as an aperitif. If you're hungry in the evening, you can do the same at Belvedere, where sushi tastes twice as good when served to live music.
At the logical end of a busy sightseeing program, swimming and sunbathing and a hearty dinner in a small restaurant or tavern is an evening cocktail in one of the island's oldest bars, such as Aigli.
