The most popular activities for children in and around Rethymno include:
- Paraschakis Family Olive Oil Factory: A factory dedicated to the production of olive oil where you can watch the fascinating process and even take part in it.
- Caves: Dikteiskaya, Ideon, Sfendoni, known for their captivating stalactites and stalagmites that fascinate tourists of all ages.
- EOMMEX center: Most of the traditional carnival events are held here in February, including the graffiti festival.
- Biotopoi Nature Park: This park, in operation since 2004, features 220 species of tropical plants from all over the island. You can also encounter various fauna, including sloth turtles, iguanas, butterflies, and scorpions. The entrance fee is approximately 5 EUR.
And, of course, water parks! Although there are none in Rethymno itself, there are three in nearby towns:
- Aqua Plus (near Heraklion, close to the resort of Hersonissos): Operating from May 15 to October 15, with tickets priced at 26 EUR for adults, 17 EUR for children (5-13 years old), and free admission for children under 5 years old.
- Water City: The largest water park in Crete, located near the resort of Kokkini Hani. Tickets cost 25 EUR for adults, 17 EUR for children up to 140 cm, and free admission for children up to 90 cm.
- Limnoupolis (near Chania): Features a children's area with a shallow pool, slides, a lazy river, large slides, a "black hole," and more. Tickets are priced at 25 EUR for adults and 18 EUR for children.
In Rethymno itself, you can enjoy a ride around the Old Town on a tourist steam train or go for a bike ride.
