The most popular activities for children in and around Funchal include:
- A unique descent from Monte Mountain on wooden toboggans driven by two men in hats (they push the sled from behind). Children and adults come in indescribable delight from such entertainment - because the maximum speed of descent is about 50 km/h;
- Horseback riding on Quinta do Riacho;
- Acquaintance with dolphins and seals during a boat excursion;
- Boat trip to the deserted island of Deserta Grande, where there is a bird sanctuary.
And, of course, stroll through the park gardens and take part in one of the local festivals.
Funchal's water parks don't fare so well. The only nearby waterpark, Aqtsaragque Santa Cruz, is 24km from the resort, in Santa Cruz (Ribeira da Boa Ventura - S. Pedro 9100-139, Santa Cruz - Madeira Island).
