For example, the Palheiro estate, built in the colonial period. Its main highlight is the park, which has one of the largest collections of exotic plants from around the world. In fact, there are four themed gardens: French, sunken, lady's garden, and rose garden. Entrance to the estate is forbidden (it's private property), but you can walk around the park as much as you like (ticket price is 10 EUR).
Botanical Garden of Madeira (Jardins Botanicos da Madeira). The total area is 8 hectares. On the territory grows about 3000 species of plants from different parts of the world and about 200 endemics, which can be found only in Madeira, 300 parrots of different species. Although, to be honest, the whole island is a huge botanical garden in itself!!! From the city center to the garden can be reached by cable car or by bus. By the way, the best panoramic photos of Funchal are obtained from this place.
Orchid Garden (Jardim orquídeas) was created in the early twentieth century. In fact, it is a large greenhouse, where the conditions of the tropical forest are maintained: a certain temperature, humidity, and light regime. Here you can buy seeds, bulbs, or babies of plants.
