UK Customs

Basic UK customs regulations.

In accordance with UK law, every tourist is obligated to adhere strictly to the rules and cultural norms when visiting this country. The fundamental customs regulations specify the quantity of goods and souvenirs that can be taken out of the country, as well as the limits on the amount of alcohol that can be brought into and taken out of the UK.

Tourists should also be aware of what is prohibited to bring into and take out of the UK. These prohibited items include weapons, drugs, sharp objects, counterfeit banknotes and coins, poultry meat, obscene material, and radio transmitters.

British Customs allows foreign nationals to import duty-free no more than 1 liter of spirits, 2 liters of wine, 200 cigarettes, or 250 grams of tobacco, or 50 cigars. The list of items that can be brought into the UK by plane also includes souvenirs and gifts up to a maximum value of 28 GBP.

Similar to other countries, the UK offers a value-added tax refund system called "tax-free." This means that by presenting a coupon and receipt at customs, every tourist can receive a refund of between 10% and 15% of the value of all purchases. This service is available only for goods purchased in the same store on the same day with a total value of 100 GBP or more.
