The crime rate in Crete is very low. However, it should be remembered that Heraklion is the largest city on the island, so there is a chance of running into miscreants here.
Thefts from parked cars are common in Crete (do not leave valuables on the seats), and pickpockets are also common (most often at bus stations). Thieves work in pairs: one distracts you while the other pulls out your wallet. Therefore, we recommend keeping money and credit cards in your front pockets and hanging backpacks on your stomach.
If you are robbed, cheated, or have an accident, call the tourist police.
