The main key to the popularity of Kos is the peculiarities of the local climate and developed hotel infrastructure. The first plus is the long tourist season, which starts in April and ends only in early November (at this time the air temperature in Kos drops to +17-18°C).
The second plus is that Kos lies on the Aegean coast, which means that wherever you settle, you can always walk to organized beaches or cozy bays.
It should be noted that of all the Greek seas, the Aegean Sea is considered the coldest - the water temperature in Kos never exceeds +25-26°C. Thanks to the combination of subtropical and Mediterranean climate, the nature of Kos is very rich.
Beauty and fauna of Kos
Kos could be the subject of an entire episode of Animal Planet - so rich is the local wildlife! Sea turtles and Mediterranean seals are among the most interesting of Kos's wildlife.
But to see the latter you have to go to the southern coast, near the resort of Kardamena and Kefalos Bay. But the north-eastern coast is the place to go to see flamingos and other feathered wildlife of Kos - in the off-season they settle in the marshy area of Aliki, which separates the beaches of Marmari and Tingaki. The vegetation of Kos is not lagging behind, too, with many cedars and cypresses, while the olive tree is considered the main local "decoration".
