Climate in Tossa de Mar

The Costa Brava coast, on which Tossa de Mar is located, is the coolest in all of Spain. Therefore, summers are not hot and winters are mild, which is typical of the maritime Mediterranean subtropical climate. On average, the thermometer rises to +25 °C in summer, and in winter it does not fall below +11 °C.

It is difficult to say when the rainy seasons begin in Tossa de Mar. Most often they occur in March, but precipitation falls a little, the rains themselves are rare, so vacationers almost do not notice the vagaries of the weather. Also, the rainy seasons in Tossa de Mar are observed in October-November, when the greatest amount of precipitation falls in the year. In summer, the weather gives an average of eight rainy days per month.

Favorable weather for recreation begins in April. Although the waves of the Mediterranean Sea are still too cold for swimming, the temperature is ideal for children and the elderly. The same gentle weather is in the velvet season, when the sun does not bake, and the sea is still warm. In summer, the water warms up to 23-24°C.

The vegetation and animal life in Tossa de Mar

The Costa Brava's mild Mediterranean climate encourages year-round growth of the local flora. But because of the rare rains, only evergreen vegetation takes root here. The typical landscape of Tossa de Mar is made up of rocky shores and cliffs covered with coniferous groves and juniper trees. The vegetation in Tossa de Mar, which grows deep along the coast, is rich in evergreen oaks, wild olives and the chamerops, a palm tree that does best in this area.

Because the vegetation in the area is harsh, sparse and there is a constant lack of drinking water, the animal life in Tossa de Mar is not diverse. Representatives of the local fauna are mainly small predators and herbivores. These are foxes, jackals, ferrets, as well as mouflons, ibexes, fallow deer. Sometimes they can be found walking along the rocky cliffs of the coast.
