The airport in Eilat is named after Ilan and Asaf Ramon. It is located 19 kilometers from the city and receives about 1 million people a year. The airport itself is small and quite cozy. It has replaced Ovda airport as of 2019.
How to get to the city center
From Eilat Airport to the city center can be reached by bus, cab, shuttle, or rent a car. It will take you about 20 minutes by car.
Public transportation
The bus is the only form of public transportation that runs at the airport.
Bus
Buses from Egged run from the airport grounds. You'll need bus #30, which goes to the central bus station.
- Where to find: the bus stop is near the airport exit.
- Trip time: 33 minutes.
- Where to buy a ticket: from the bus conductor.
- Operation time: from 07:45 to 23:00 every 20 minutes. In the evenings, the bus runs at intervals of 45 minutes.
- Fare: 4.2 ILS. The ticket is for two trips.
Important! No public transportation during the Sabbath (Friday afternoon to Saturday evening).
Transfer
For travelers with small children or bulky luggage, it is better to book a shuttle. A car will be waiting for you near the airport exit. You can book a transfer on the KiwiTaxi website.
Cost: from 194 ILS for four passengers.
Taxis
Local cab drivers are not very honest about their pricing, so be careful to negotiate the price before you get in the car. Then the trip will come out cheaper than if the driver turns on the meter. Many cab drivers don't work on the Sabbath.
- Where to find: the cab parking lot is near the terminal exit.
- Cost: 84 ILS on weekdays and 95 ILS on weekends, holidays, and evenings (after 21:00 to 05:30).
Rental Car
If you have an international driver's license and want to have complete freedom while moving around the city, rent a car.
- Where to find: Car rental desks are located at the airport or can be booked online at a website (e.g., rentalcars).
- Cost: from 151 ILS per day for an economy car.
