The map of Nice is rich in sights and it will take more than one day to see them all. We recommend you to start getting acquainted with the city from the old quarters. The streets of Vieux Nice are confusing, so before visiting them it is better to get a Nice sightseeing map. Famous objects here are the Palace of Justice (Palais de Justice), the Cathedral of Sainte-Reparate, the flower market Cours Saleya.
Cours Saleya is one of the main pedestrian arteries of the city. People come here to buy spices, fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, cheeses, candied chestnuts, other delicacies or souvenirs.
During the day you can visit the Chapel of Mercy (Charelle de la Misericorde) of the XVIII century, the palace of Caïs de Pierlas, where Henri Matisse lived and worked. In the evenings, Cours Saleya becomes one big restaurant and on Mondays it is a flea market.
To the west of the market is the historic building of the Nice Opera House (Orega de Nice). In the heart of the old quarters is the Palais Lascaris, a 17th century building with luxurious interiors, which houses the Musical Instruments Museum.
In the north of Old Nice you will find Piazza Garibaldi (Place Garibaldi). In the past, representatives of the royal family were welcomed here, and celebrations in honor of the French Revolution were held here. The Chapelle du Saint-Serulcre (Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre) stands on the square and Cafe de Turin is next to it.
In the west the Old Town adjoins one of the most beautiful squares of the city — Massena (Place Massena). It is indicated on all maps with the sights of Nice. This is the center of the city. It is pedestrianized.
A few blocks northwest of the train station stands the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Nice. This landmark serves as a beautiful backdrop for photos.
Many municipal museums can be visited free of charge with a French Riviera Pass, valid for 24, 48, or 72 hours. The card costs 30 EUR / 45 EUR / 65 EUR, or 32 EUR / 46 EUR / 68 EUR if you choose the option that includes transportation. In addition, in Nice you should see and visit the House of Adam and Eve (Maison d’Adam et Eve), the Church of Saint Joan of Arc (Église Sainte-Jeanne d’Arc), the Bellanda Tower (La tour Bellanda), the Matisse Museum (Musée Matisse), the Marc Chagall Museum (Musée Marc Chagall), and other sites.
