Climate in Nice

Learn all about the climatic conditions of Nice and the flora and fauna of the resort.

The weather in the resort is determined by the Mediterranean climate, favorable for recreation throughout the year. In summer, the air temperature in Nice can reach +30°C, but there is no exhausting heat. Humidity is not high, the coast is open to the refreshing breezes of the Mediterranean Sea. Rains in June-August are rare, not like in April or September-October, when the "rainy season" begins in Nice.

Sunny days in the city - about 300 a year. The coast is protected from the winds from the north-west by the Mercantour range of Alpine mountains, and from the west by the Esterel massif. Winter in the resort is mild and warm. The thermometer rarely drops below +5-10°C. The peculiarity of Nice's climate is such that in February you can easily dine on the balcony in a T-shirt, and on one of the summer evenings at a concert in the Cimiez garden you can throw a light sweater over your shoulders.

Nice's vegetation and animal life

The capital of the French Riviera is like a large garden overlooking the sea. There are evergreen deciduous shrubs, citrus trees, eucalyptus, horse chestnut, blue date palm, jasmine, mimosa and so on. The city has about two dozen parks and gardens: the Vinegar Park (Le parc du Vinaigrier), Parc Chambrun, Jardin du Monastère de Cimiez, Parc Phoenix and others, which are home to exotic animals, birds and reptiles.

On land, Nice's most common wildlife is dogs, mostly small breeds. There is a real dog cult here. The animal is equated to a family member (a child). They take them with them to the beach, cafes and temples.

In the sea there is a high probability of encountering jellyfish. This critter is quite dangerous off the coast of Nice - touching it can cause burns.
