It's easy to walk from the center of Nice to the coast in just a few minutes. The resort has 15 private and 22 public (free) beaches. Which one is best is hard to say.
The best municipal and private beaches in Nice
Municipal beaches in Nice are clean and well-maintained, but without changing cabins and other amenities. Centenaire and Carras are equipped for the disabled. There are beaches for non-smokers (Centennial, Lenval) and smokers. The plage publique de Beau Rivage near the Quai des Etats-Unis (Quai des Etats-Unis) is most often visited because hot water showers and toilets are available for a reasonable fee.
If you want a lounge chair, umbrella and a carpeted walkway to protect your feet from the coarse pebbles, go to the commercial beaches of Ruhl, Lido and Hi Beach, where Russian is one of the languages spoken, or Castel, Orega, Neptune, Regence, Sporting and others. Just do not forget to prepare at least 10-27 EUR for services. Rest in such places, unlike public beaches, is limited in time (usually from 9:00 to 19:00-20:00).
Which beach is best in Nice? Take a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais: private beaches have information boards with a list of services and prices, while the conditions on public ones you'll see right away.
Beaches and sandy beaches: tips
The beach line in Nice is not wide (30-40 meters), pebbly. To walk on it, you should have special shoes. Lying on a towel is uncomfortable. It makes sense to buy a foam or straw beach mat (about 10 EUR). To find sandy beaches, you should go to Cape Antibes, to Villefranche-sur-Mer. The bottom near the city beaches is stony and goes sharply downwards. But it is thanks to the stones that the sea near Nice is clean.
How to decipher flag colors
If the blue flag is flying above the beach, the water is excellent, yellow - not very good, lots of jellyfish, green - no restrictions for swimming, orange - you can enter the water, but at your own risk, red - swimming is prohibited.
