Nice: city map, main districts, tourist spots

To get to know the city better, check out the map of Nice.

The largest city on the French Riviera covers more than 70 square kilometers. It can be roughly divided into two parts — the historic and the modern. Looking at a map of Nice, you’ll notice that most tourist attractions are concentrated along the Promenade des Anglais, in the Old Town (Vieille Ville), and in the nearby districts up to Mathis Service Road.

Most of the resort’s hotels are located here, including the famous Le Negresco. To find this hotel-museum, you won’t even need a map — you’ll easily spot it while strolling along the Promenade des Anglais. On the same street, at number 5, you’ll find the city’s main Tourist Office, where you can get a map of Nice filled with useful information in English and French.

Similar information offices are available at the airport (Terminal 1) and at the train station (La gare de Nice). From the seafront, a street starting right at the entrance to Le Negresco will lead you to the station. Additional details about the operation of tourist offices can be found here.

Which district of Nice should you stay in?

The capital of the French Riviera has several dozen districts: Lingostière, Gambetta, Arenas, Riquier, Caucade, Rimiez, Gairaut, and others.

The city’s historic quarters are a maze of narrow streets, old buildings, shops, boutiques, salons, pubs, restaurants, and clubs. The sea is just a short walk away. The Old Town is a pedestrian zone. Its main attractions include the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral (Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate), the Communal Palace (Palais Communal), and Cours Saleya Square.

The most convenient area to stay is in central Nice, along the Promenade des Anglais. The sea, landmarks, transport, and shops are all nearby. The most practical streets are those between the promenade, avenue Jean Médecin, and boulevard Victor Hugo. The only drawback of this area is the high accommodation prices. Good but cheaper options can be found near the port or in the Musicians’ Quarter. The Old Town is ideal for young people and those who enjoy lively nightlife. Affordable lodging is available in western Nice, but beware of two unsafe neighborhoods — Les Moulins and La Madeleine. It’s also not recommended to stay near the train station in Ariane.
