Beaches of La Baule

La Baule beach review: we'll tell you which one is best.

The coastline of La Baule is strikingly diverse: pine-covered cliffs and hidden coves alternate with charming sandy beaches. In total, there are about 50 beaches stretching for nearly 9 km.

The true highlight of La Baule’s beaches is not only the well-developed infrastructure (something you’d expect from a prestigious resort), but also the breathtaking natural scenery: endless salt marshes, pine forests, and sandbanks stretch along the bay between Brittany and Vendée.

La Baule’s beaches are considered among the best for family holidays. Each one is equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas, while children can enjoy mini playgrounds with trampolines, slides, and sandcastle huts (professional babysitting services are also available). Beyond traditional surfboards, you’ll also spot land yachts — surfboards on wheels with sails — and wind-powered buggies with four wheels, a steering wheel, and a sail.

Central city beaches, however, are not ideal for families — they are far more crowded and less comfortable. So which is better: the public beach or a private hotel beach? Without a doubt, the hotel beach wins in both cleanliness and quality of service.

For a change of scenery, we recommend visiting nearby towns such as Le Croisic, Saint-Brevin, and Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef, where it’s not unusual to bump into international celebrities.
