History of the city of La Baule.
Although the first settlement in what is now the resort dates back to the Middle Ages, La Baule is just over 150 years old. It was once a small fishing village called Escoublac. At the end of the 18th century it was given its modern name, but it was still a long way from becoming a famous resort.
Who knows how it would have fared if in 1833 two entrepreneurs from France, Berthold and Benoit, had not taken a liking to this fertile place for the cultivation of alder, pine and poplar trees (about 720 hectares of land were planted).
In the course of a few years, the town also developed its transportation infrastructure and buildings. At the beginning of the twentieth century, La Baule became a presentable resort that attracts more and more tourists every year.
