Batumi is one of Georgia's resorts. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the city, especially its beaches. The beaches stretch along the coast for 7 kilometers and are 30–40 meters wide.
Batumi’s beaches are pebbled with a gentle entry into the sea. They are very suitable for family vacations. Many visitors come here with young children.
Features of vacationing in Batumi
A beach holiday in Batumi has its own features. Here are a few of them:
- Beach cleaning.
Batumi’s beaches are quite clean and are cleaned regularly. Occasionally, you may see a cigarette butt or a plastic bag blown out of a bin by the wind, but staff quickly take care of it.
- Choosing a spot.
The number of people on the beaches in Batumi is not very high, so it’s easy to find a free spot at any time of day — some prefer to relax by the water, others farther away.
- Water cleanliness.
This depends on the location and type of beach. Sanitary standards are especially monitored on central beaches. Wild beaches (and nearby waters) are cleaned less often, but due to fewer people, there’s usually little trash. Proximity to the port may affect water quality.
- Special footwear.
Walking into the water over stones can be uncomfortable, so you’ll often find vendors selling silicone slippers. They solve the problem well, especially for families with kids.
Prices for services
Sunbed rental: You can rent a sunbed on the beaches for 5–10 GEL (lari). Lying directly on the pebbles can be quite uncomfortable. Additionally, the pebbles cool down quickly, so it might feel chilly on cloudy days.
Umbrella rental: Bringing your own umbrella can be inconvenient for the same reasons. It's difficult to secure it in the pebbles. It's easier to pay a small fee and have access to a fixed umbrella that can provide good shade from the hot sun.
In Batumi, you can purchase related goods at the beach at relatively low prices. The items sold by vendors often cost the same as similar products in the city's stores.
Types of Beaches
In Batumi, tourists enjoy spending time on pebble beaches. Depending on their location and available services, the beaches in Batumi can be roughly divided into four groups.
Suburban beaches
These beaches are located near the Opera Theater. They stretch along the coastline and are relatively narrow (up to 20 meters wide). These beaches are preferred by the locals, as well as tourists staying nearby.
How to get there
- There is a nearby road, making it convenient to drive there by car.
- You can take public transportation (minibusses No. 21, 28, 29, 31, and buses No. 2, 10, 13, 17).
- You can also ride a bicycle to get there.
Central beaches
This group of beaches is considered the most popular. Advantages of the central beaches:
Entertainment. Here you’ll find everything for active leisure: from parasailing to renting pedal boats. The beaches are well-equipped and offer full services for a great vacation.
Spaciousness. The beaches are up to 40 meters wide, allowing guests to relax comfortably without disturbing others.
Facilities. There are toilets and changing cabins on site. Showers are also available.
Nearby is the Seaside Park.
Especially noteworthy are the following popular beaches:
Hookah Beach – located near the yacht mooring area. You can rent a boat here and take a sea trip (the cost is about 70 GEL per hour).
Children’s Beach – offers all the necessary amenities for families with kids. It features a very gentle descent into the sea and almost no waves (thanks to a breakwater in the water). Tourists can:
- rent a sunbed or umbrella;
- grab a snack at one of the nearby cafes;
- see Batumi’s calling card – the moving statue of Ali and Nino (located next to the Children’s Beach).

Beaches in the new part of the city
This group of beaches has a steeper descent. It's great for relaxing with a large group, but not suitable for families with small children. They are located far from the city center, so their popularity is somewhat lower. The beach width is about 30 meters.
This group includes the following beaches:
- Aquapark;
- Cacao;
- Boom-Boom.
There are fewer attractions and opportunities for active recreation on the beaches in the new part of Batumi. It is also more difficult to find accommodation here.

Wild beach
This beach stretches from the airport to the Seaside Park. The width is about 30 meters.
The Wild Beach is not very suitable for a cultural holiday with cafés and sunbed rentals. There are no additional water attractions either, but those looking for seclusion, peace, and beautiful views will find what they seek.

For tourists who get bored by the sea, Batumi offers a wide variety of water activities. Since there are many attractions near the beaches, owners of water attractions often offer discounts to attract more visitors. As a result, prices are not high, and the ride durations are quite reasonable.
