Georgian cuisine is based on the contrast of spicy and flavorful dishes. Vegetables are widely used and can serve as both main dishes and side dishes.
The national dishes in Batumi are similar to the rest of Georgian cuisine but have some differences. For example, the proximity to the sea includes less popular fish dishes in the diet of the city's residents. Bread is often made from wheat flour rather than corn flour, as the city is oriented towards tourists.
One thing you must try in Batumi is the famous khachapuri and adjaruli khachapuri. The first one is a flavorful bread filled with meat, cheese, and sometimes fish, while the latter is a dish of fried meat and potatoes seasoned with spicy Georgian spices. The cuisine here is incredibly aromatic. Walnuts, pomegranates, garlic, cheese, legumes, eggplants, spinach, and plums are all incredibly delicious! And be prepared, in the summer they use a lot of fresh cilantro (coriander), so if you don't like it... just buy some bread, tomatoes, and fruits, and it will make a wonderful snack!
Don't miss the opportunity to try authentic Adjarian wines: Chkhaveri and Usakhelauri. They are not exported, so you won't find them anywhere else.
