Briefly about the essentials: the past and present of the Batumi resort.

The famous resort of Batumi is located on the Black Sea coast, specifically on the Kakhabeti Plain, just 2-3 meters above sea level. The majority of the city is adjacent to the Batumi Bay, stretching along the Korolistskali and Barchana rivers in the northern part of the Kakhabeti Plain.

The population of Batumi is approximately 161,000 people. The official language is Georgian, and the national currency is the Georgian lari (GEL).

The exact founding date of the city is unknown. The earliest mentions of the city can be traced back to the famous ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, who referred to it as "Bathus," which translates to "depth" in Latin, dating back to the 4th century BCE. In medieval times, the city was known as "Batomi," and it was only after 1936 that it became Batumi.

In the 15th and 16th centuries, the city was occupied several times by the Ottoman Empire. In the 19th century, it became part of the Russian Empire as a part of Georgia, and in 1921, it joined the Soviet Union.

In 1991, Georgia gained independence, and since then, Batumi has attracted numerous visitors, developing its infrastructure and striving to earn the reputation as a world-class seaside resort.
