One of the most romantic statues in Batumi, depicting the entire story of love from connection to separation, comes alive in its movements. Take a look at this masterpiece in the rays of the setting sun with the accompaniment of the sea, and you will undoubtedly be enchanted by its charm.
History of Creation
Nino and Ali have been adorning Batumi for several years. They were installed in 2011. Initially, the couple stood by the sea on a special platform, but due to bad weather, the artwork could be damaged, so it was moved to the Park of Wonders. Now the statues are located near the Ferris wheel. The dance of the two lovers looks incredibly beautiful at sunset when the lighting is turned on, allowing you to endlessly enjoy the love story of Nino and Ali.
The talented Georgian architect Tamara Kvesitadze is the creator of this artwork. She worked on this masterpiece for two years, and it was subsequently exhibited at the Venice Biennale and later in London, where it gained great success.
Symbolism of the statues
It is said that the sculptures symbolize a love story described in the novel by Kurban Said. The book tells the tale of a Muslim boy and a Christian girl who fall in love, the challenges posed by their forbidden love, and their destiny. Initially, the statues were intended to be named "Man and Woman," but it was changed to "Nino and Ali."
For ten minutes, the figures perform their dance, sometimes coming together and merging as one, and then parting again. The height of the statues is slightly taller than an average human, but the tall pedestal on which they stand makes them monumental.
There are benches nearby where anyone can enjoy the endless movement of love while listening to the sound of the waves and gazing at the faint twinkling of the starry sky.
How to get there
You can reach the statues by walking, driving a car, or using public transportation.
If you choose to drive, there won't be any parking issues. You can park your car near the Alphabet Tower and get as close to the monument as possible.
If you prefer public transportation, bus numbers 1, 1a, 2, 4, 10, and 13 will take you to your destination. It's a good idea to confirm with the driver or fellow passengers that the bus is going to the right place.
